Silicon Valley will be undergoing significant changes in the future from potential impacts of global warming, the end of peak oil, and the aging of our population. Tackling these challenges will require a toolbox of solutions, most significantly re-thinking where and how we house our future population.
Join us in exploring forward-thinking communities along the Winchester light-rail line that have planned for housing in conjunction with transportation and retail to create neighborhoods that promote walkability, transit use and more environmentally friendly urban spaces. We will explore the design and planning elements that make these neighborhoods work well, the elements that need to be strengthened and the policies that support good design.
Via foot and train, we’ll tour select examples of transit-oriented development in Campbell and San Jose. Learn about housing densities, parking requirements, heights and how to create spaces that build community and better help prepare for future challenges.
